Top Tips to Help Increase your Social Media Following

In today’s day and age, a strong social media presence has become a necessity for most businesses, however, social media marketing only really works if you actually have a following. So… how do you effectively build your following on social media?

Here we have compiled our top tips for helping to improve your presence and following on social media.

Follow others

Don’t just count on others finding you, go out and actively find others in your niche who you can follow and engage with – who will hopefully follow you, too. Set some time aside each week to search social media with hashtags relevant to your industry, to help expose fresh, like-minded individuals and brands you can engage with.

Be consistent

The worst thing you can do is to irregularly post content. A post here and there a couple times of week will get lost in the millions of other posts out there. To combat this, keep to a regular posting schedule. You can use helpful tools like Hootsuite and Buffer that allow you to sync multiple social media accounts and plan your posts in advance.

Engage

Establishing connections and building relationships is one of the easiest ways to get more people following your social media pages. Tag other pages, users and locations in your posts. This increases the likelihood of other people seeing you. Share posts, images, and tweets from other businesses, and they’ll be more likely to share yours.

If you share posts, images, and tweets from other businesses, and they’ll be more likely to share yours. Similarly, if someone engages with your post, like their comment or reply. If a follower sends you a message, try to respond to them because this could be someone who likes your brand or is thinking about using your product or service.

Use hashtags

Just like you use keywords to attract visitors to your blog or website, hashtags are critical if you want to increase your exposure on social media. Using hashtags on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram will attract more people to the posts you are publishing, and therefore, a greater audience to your social media accounts.

Although it may be tempting to cram as many hashtags into each post as possible, be sure to use them carefully – don’t be that person that ends every post with 20 pointless, unrelated hashtags.

Run competitions

Running competitions on your social media pages is a fantastic way to grow your audience. Offering your customers something in return for tweeting with a specific hashtag, retweeting or sharing your content is a great way to acknowledge and reward engagement.

As well as increasing followers, this is a great way of extending your reach because every time someone likes or comments on your posts, it will expose your content to their followers.
