What is the Best Time to Post on Social Media?

Social media is one of the best ways to promote your business and engage with potential and existing customers. However, it isn’t just a case of hitting ‘publish’ and hoping for the best; there’s a lot more thought that needs to go into your content and it’s timing in order to reap the biggest rewards.

So, what are the best times to post on social media I hear you ask?

Sadly, there’s no ‘one size fits all’ answer to this, and the ideal posting time will differ from person to person or business to business. The best way to determine your ideal posting time is by testing your posts at different time periods to identify which post time generates the highest audience engagement.

Even though we can’t predict your ideal posting time, there are a few tips we can share to help you determine your ideal posting time.

Facebook

Research suggests that early afternoon tends to be the optimal time to post on Facebook. This is because people are generally taking their lunch breaks or leaving the office for the day. The best way to check how well your audience is engaging with your posts is to use Facebook Analytics, which will tell you when your audience is online and when they tend to engage with posts the most.

Twitter

Twitter is quite often used as a newsfeed to keep people up to date with breaking news, politics, celebrities and friends, and its users quite often hop on when they get spare time. This is usually lunchtime and at the end of the working day.

LinkedIn

Being a professional network used mostly by businesspeople, salespeople, and recruiters,  it makes sense to be posting during business hours. The best time to post on LinkedIn will, therefore, be during hours where most people are commuting to/from work and close to typical break times (mid-morning/mid-afternoon).

It’s important not to forget time zones when posting on LinkedIn though. If you’re looking to connect with a different time zone you will need to research and schedule your ideal posting time to ensure you reach them.

You can use social media scheduling tools to help you plan and schedule your posts ahead of time to ensure you don’t miss out on capturing the eyes of your target audience at those crucial times.

Sticking to a regular posting schedule is also important, as when you grow a follower base, your content is expected to be published at a certain time for readers to view. Posting with an irregular schedule for a medium-sized following will be sure to put readers off and force them to find an alternative piece of content to read instead.
