Love it or hate it, social media has its advantages business wise. It’s affordable, easy to manage and generates some pretty impressive results, that is, if you do it right. Social media marketing has been a route pursued by many businesses, large and small. Social success equates to a bevy of benefits, including increased inbound traffic, better brand awareness, improved rankings in the search engines, higher conversion rates, improved brand loyalty and better customer satisfaction all round.

With the sheer number of social networks accessible – there is pretty much a new social media platform launched weekly (who wouldn’t want a slice of what Mark Zuckerberg has!) – the world of social media marketing can be a confusing place for those who haven’t ventured much further than updating their personal profiles. With social media marketing, as with most marketing tactics, it’s all in the planning. Trends, content, posting frequency/times and social media management tools aside however, your choice of social network can be a defining factor in your route to becoming an SMM heavyweight.

We’re here to help you discover which social networks are worth pursuing for your business so you can start off on the right track.

We couldn’t give our social network rundown without mentioning Facebook. With 1.37 billion daily active users and 2.07 billion monthly active users (as of September 2017), Facebook certainly has an enviable reach. It is still (annoyingly) the most popular social network in the world, with Facebook owned WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger taking the equally as impressive second and third place spots in regards to its active users.

Whilst we can in no way guarantee that you will have access to all of its active users, by simply setting up a Facebook business page you can have access to increased exposure, generate leads and reach a more targeted audience amongst other things. For those looking to target women and men aged between 25 and 54, Facebook is an excellent platform to promote your business.

Looking to touch base with the younger generation? Look no further than the business opportunities and fleetingly delights of Snapchat. Snapchat marketing use is growing across a multitude of sectors, and for good reason. The platform has over 300 million monthly active users, 41% of which are aged between 18 and 34 years of age.

With 500 million users, Instagram certainly trumps Snapchat. Whilst the latter has disappointing daily use, 59% of Instagram’s total users check the app daily. There are tons of misconceptions regarding why businesses shouldn’t be on Instagram but as our recent Instagram marketing tips prove, there is a lot you can do on this diverse, aesthetically pleasing platform. Instagram is an excellent choice, even if you are looking to sell more than just visual products. Running contests for instance has been an effective practice for countless businesses.

If your target audience consists of individuals over the age of 35, you may want to steer clear of Instagram. 90% of Instagram users are aged 35 or under, which is great news if your products are geared towards younger audiences.

Right, we think we’ll leave it there for now, stay tuned for part 2 of our Social Network Rundown 2018. No need to wait; here is part 2!
